Cupboard Locks FAQ

How do I best remove cupboard locks once installed?

Step 1) The best way to remove your cupboard locks locks is to apply a bit of gentle heat (e.g. a hairdryer) around the lock / catch plate. This this softens the 3M adhesive and makes it pliable again. Step 2) With a sturdy knife (avoid a kitchen knife etc as they are not necessarily strong enough) you can gently slide it under the corners and very gently lifting them away bit by bit works the best. Step 3) Once you have a corner free you can gently lift it off by hand. Don’t try to force them off in case they are well stuck, just keep applying a bit of heat and they do eventually lift away.
Step 4) If you have any adhesive left in place give it a bit of heat again and it should roll up into a ball like a bit of blutack if you rub it with your fingers. A bit of warm soapy water rubbed on can help with any remains, but you should end up with clean / undamaged doors.

I'm having problems getting the magnetic keys to work

If you are having issues getting the magnetic keys to open your cupboard / drawers there are some checks we advise and if these do not help please email support@aycorn.com and we will happily help you identify the solution.

- If you press the magnet up against a non-installed lock do they move the hook back and forth at all? The locks come pre-set to 'always open' but once they are clicked into the 'closed' setting this will identify if there is a general magnet issue.

- what orientation are the locks installed in? Is the hook pointing sideways, upwards or downwards? The locks work best in the sideways or upwards pointing direction. If the hook is pointing downwards this can affect how much strength the magnetic keys can have on moving the hook.

- are you removing the magnetic key from its base holder (they rotate out) or using it as it is? The keys do still open doors in the holder but the magnetic reach is greater if removed.

I'm having problems with the door / drawer not opening

Sometimes a tiny alignment difference can affect the ability of the hook to lift over the edge of the catch and allow the door / drawer to open.
The first check we advise is to make sure the key is being removed from it’s holder before use. This affects how far it will reach through the door to move the hook on the lock.
Assuming this is the case the next thing we recommend is to put the magnet against the door and give the door a press to see if this helps give the hook a bit more clearance space to move.
If this does not work unfortunately the only answer would be to try and pull open the door and lift the locks off where they are fixed.

The easiest way to achieve this is to grab a hairdryer and blow some warm air down the gaps of the door near where the lock is installed. This hot air will begin to soften the adhesive and make it easier for you to pull the lock free from where it has been stuck. If at first this does not work, just add more warm air and eventually it will happen.
We hope this helps but if you continue to have problems please feel welcome to email support@aycorn.com and we will happily help you come up with a solution.

How do I install the locks on 'in frame' cupboards?

Do you mean you have an ‘in frame’ cupboard (the walls of the cupboard are not level with the outer frame) or is it that the door on the cupboard shut inside the frame?
If it’s just the door closing inside the frame you can measure the thickness of the door and install the catch that exact same distance inside the frame and when the door closes the lock should be in the right position.
If you have a fully ‘in frame’ cupboard usually what people do are either to install the lock pointing upwards with the catch-plate on the top of the unit, or install the lock / catch where it fixes to a middle shelf.
Hopefully one of these will be an option for you?
Unfortunately if you don’t have a flat top surface, or a door which closes against a shelf there is no space for the catch to install and sadly they won’t work.
As a note – all internal magnetic locks work this way and the only recommendation would be the external stap-style locks which go round the outside. We don’t sell these ourselves, but there are some reputable sellers online who do.
If you are unable to resolve your problem please feel welcome to email support@aycorn.com and we will happily work with you to give further guidance or help you with the refund process.

What are the dimensions of the locks?

The dimensions of the locks are as follows: Lock: 40 x 40mm
Catch: 38 x 34mm
The product has an installation tool which will help you place the lock / catch in the correct place. This is slightly wider than the lock itself so requires 44mm space of clearance between the runner rail and the top of the frame if you are checking they will fit on a set of sliding drawers?
We hope this helps, however if you need any additional information please don't hesitate to get back in touch via support@aycorn.com and we will gladly provide further guidance.
